PE and sport in school
Children take part in a range of sports activities in PE lessons. These include Netball, Football, Dodgeball, Gymnastics, Dance, Cricket, Orienteering, Athletics, Tennis, Rounders, Basketball, Tag Rugby and Hockey to name but a few.
The yearly coverage for these can be seen here.
Year 4 have swimming lessons once a week. Children are taught at Heanor Leisure Centre by qualified swimming instructors and as part of the curriculum they learn about water safety.
We encourage as many children as possible to take part in sport outside of school. Children often bring medals, belts, certificates and trophies that they have gained outside of school to show as we are keen to share their successes.
We have increased our participation in local sports' competitions this year. These have included football matches with local schools, participation in the Gregg Cup and basketball competitions. Through the Amber Valley Sport's Partnership we take part in activities and competitions throughout the year, for example, we are currently Boccia champions for Amber Valley. Other competitions we have taken part in are Futsal and High Five Netball. The Sport's Partnership will also be providing Bikeability training for Y5 again after successful training last year.
Clubs in school include:
Year 3 and 4 football (after school, Thursday 3pm-4.15pm)
Year 5 and 6 football ( after school, Monday 3pm-4.15pm)
Dance club (after school)
Netball (after school)
Football, basketball and other games at lunchtimes.
